Getting Started with Scorecards
What are the scorecards management tools?
The scorecard management tools (either Generic or QSE) are used to help businesses manage their
B-BBEE status. The tools calculates the points scored in Ownership, Management, Skills Development,
Enterprise and Supplier Development, and Socio Economic Development. A breakdown of the points achieved
in each section is given as well as the calculated B-BBEE status level.
Purchasing scorecards
Once you've created an account
here,
go to the
pricing page to purchase a scorecard.
There are QSE and Generic scorecards to choose from. The pricing page has a calculator to help you know which one suits
your company's needs. You can choose either a 3 month or 1 year subscription to a scorecard (you can renew it at any
stage). You can also purchase multiple scorecards, which is particularly beneficial to consultants (refer to the FAQ
on consultants for additional information on this).
Creating and getting started with a scorecard
Once you've purchased a scorecard, visit your Dashboard. Your Dashboard will provide you with a number of tabs of which
2 are dedicated to scorecards. One for Generic scorecards and one for QSE scorecards. Depending on whether you've
purchased a Generic or QSE scorecards, click on the relevant tab. In this tab you'll see your unused scorecards. When
ever you purchase a scorecard, they'll be added to your unused scorecards.
To use a purchased scorecard, click the 'Create Scorecard' button in this tab. You'll be prompted to give the scorecard a
name and choose whether you want to use a 3 month subscription or 1 year subscription (note: the popup will notify you how
many of each subscription type you have available to use). Creating this scorecard will then deduct 1 from your unused scorecards.
Once created, the scorecard will be added to the list of scorecards in the tab. Click the 'Edit' button to get taken
through to the scorecard's page.
Sharing a scorecard
Scorecards can be shared with other accounts. This is useful if you require more than one account working on (or simply viewing)
the scorecard. Up to 5 accounts can be added to the scorecard. To share a scorecard, you must know the email address
associated with the account holder you wish to share it with.
Editing your scorecard
Scorecards have 6 tabs. Five of these tabs are for the particular areas of the company that are scored
depending on criteria set out in the B-BBEE regulations. Each of these tabs will have 2 sections. One labeled 'Questions' and
the other labeled 'Points'.
In the 'Questions' section, you will be asked a number questions pertaining to the area of the company associated with
the tab you're in. You may save your answers at any stage. Once you have completed the questions for that area, you can move
onto the 'Points' section. Here you simply need to click the calculate button and SA Lantern will do all the hard work of
calculating your points for that area. The points section will give you a breakdown of where your points have been earned and
(where possible) what you are required to do to achieve more points in that area.
The sixth tab is labeled 'Report'. Once you've completed all of the other 5 tabs, then a report can be generated within this tab.
It is as simply as clicking 'Calculate Report'. A summary of the points obtained in each area and the calculated
B-BBEE level is given. You can then click 'Print Report' for a more detailed report.
Getting Started with Affidavits
About the affidavit builder
The affidavit builder takes in your company information, calculates your company's B-BBEE level
and generates the appropriate affidavit. This affidavit can then be printed out.
Purchasing affidavits
Once you've created an account
here,
your first affidavit is FREE. If you need to purchase additional affidavits, then go to the
pricing page to purchase them.
If you're unsure whether you can use an affidavit, the pricing page has a calculator to help you determine whether you
need an affidavit or a scorecard.
Creating and getting started with an affidavit
When you're ready to use your purchased affidavits, visit your Dashboard. Your Dashboard will provide you with a number of tabs of which
one is dedicated to affidavits. In this tab you'll see your 'remaining affidavits'. These are affidavits which have been
purchased but not yet used. When ever you purchase affidavits, they will be added to your 'remaining affidavits'.
To use a purchased affidavit, click the 'Create New Affidavit' button in this tab. You'll be prompted to give the affidavit a
name. Creating this affidavit will then deduct 1 from your 'remaining affidavits'.
Once created, the affidavit will be added to the list in the tab. Click the 'Edit Affidavit' button to get taken
through to the affidavit's builder page.
Consultants
What makes SA Lantern helpful to consultants?
SA Lantern's management tool provides a great way for consultants to manage their clients' B-BBEE scorecard. It's
simple to use and does all the hard and tedious calculations for you. Scorecard bundles can also be purchased
at a reduced cost for consultants that are wanting to manage multiple clients on SA Lantern.
The 'sharing' of scorecards and also 'transferring unused' scorecards are great tools designed to assist consultants. See below
for more information on these.
Transferring Unused Scorecards
SA Lantern realises that a consultancy may have a number of people working with different clients. With the ability to transfer
unused scorecards, the consultancy can take advantage of the bundled packages and purchase all the scorecards with one
account. That account holder can then distribute the scorecards to the other account holders. These account holders will receive
an email notifying them that a scorecard (or multiple scorecards) has been transferred to their account and they can go
ahead and create a scorecard for the client they are taking care of.
Sharing Scorecards
Once a scorecard has been created, the 'share' tool allows you to link 5 other accounts to the scorecard. This may be useful if
you have multiple people working on the scorecard or perhaps if you would like the client to have access to the scorecard.
Just to note: Only the original creator of the scorecard can edit who the scorecard is shared with and is also the only one
who can delete the scorecard.

My Company's turnover is below R10 Million rands, do I need to have a B-BBEE verification?
In most cases a B-BBEE verification will not be required, as an entity with a turnover below

not the deciding factor. An exempt micro enterprise (EME) receives a level 4 automatically.

A B-BBEE verification's cost is entirely dependent on the size of a company and the number of employees
it has working for it. Time to complete a verification is once again dependent on the size of the
organisation. A verification can also be completed far more efficiently if the organisation adequately
prepares for the process and has information required on hand and easily accessible.
The process can range from a day to a couple of weeks.

the tool can then be used to provide your B-BBEE auditor/Verification agent with all supporting
evidence to finalise your score. It is the simplest and most affordable way to prepare for your
